The purpose of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and University of Cape Town tuberculosis collaboration is to identify prospective immune correlates of risk of tuberculosis (TB) disease following natural infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis, to discover biomarkers in blood that can be used to identify individuals at risk of developing active TB for priority enrollment into TB vaccine trials, and to identify predictive gene expression signatures of risk of TB disease, following natural infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
